In addition to the original boys-only choir, there is also St Albans Cathedral Girls' Choir (originally the Abbey Girls' Choir) founded in 1996. The Girls' Choir is formed of 26 girls from local schools, ranging in ages from 8 to 14. They are directed by Tom Winpenny, the assistant Master of Music at the cathedral, and accompanied in services by Oliver Morell, the Cathedral's Organ scholar.
