Rzhevsky District (Russian: Рже́вский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[7] district (raion), one of the thirty-six in Tver Oblast, Russia. It is located in the south of the oblast and borders with Staritsky District in the north, Zubtsovsky District in the east, Sychyovsky District of Smolensk Oblast in the south, Oleninsky District in the west, and with Selizharovsky District in the northwest. The area of the district is 2,760 square kilometers (1,070 sq mi).[3] Its administrative center is the town of Rzhev[1] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[10] Population: 12,480 (2010 Census);[4] 14,674 (2002 Census);[11] 17,664 (1989 Soviet census).[12]
