The village, which lies on the Nozon river, has about 450 inhabitants. The town has a notable Romanesque church. The monastery of Romainmôtier (Romanum monasterium) was founded by Romanus of Condat, a leader of monks, after whom it was named.[3]
The municipality was created in 1970 by a merger of Romainmôtier and Envy.[4]
