North Weston was historically a hamlet in the parish of Portishead.[2] It was created a separate civil parish on 31 December 1894.[3] On 1 April 1993 the parish was reunited with Portishead.[4] The name of the parish was then "Portishead and North Weston" from 1993 to 2011 when the name was changed to just Portishead.[5] In 1971 the parish had a population of 2469.[6]
