Newtownards (/ˌnjuːtənˈɑːrdz/; Irish: Baile Nua na hArda[9]) is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies at the most northern tip of Strangford Lough, 10 miles (16 km) east of Belfast, on the Ards Peninsula. It is in the civil parish of Newtownards and the historic baronies of Ards Lower and Castlereagh Lower.[10] Newtownards is in the Ards and North Down Borough. The population was 29,677 in the 2021 Census.[4]
