Magdalen College of the Liberal Arts (formerly Northeast Catholic College,[1] The College of Saint Mary Magdalen,[3] and simply Magdalen College[2]), is a private Catholic liberal arts college in Warner, New Hampshire. The college has experienced significant financial challenges and will close at the end of the spring 2024 semester.[5]
It is recognized as a Catholic college by the Diocese of Manchester[6] and recommended by the Cardinal Newman Society.[7] Magdalen College offers associate and bachelor's degrees in liberal studies with majors in philosophy, theology, history, and literature as well as a multi-disciplinary major in the great books.[3] Its curriculum is based on the study of the great books throughout its curriculum both in its core and in its majors.[8] Magdalen College possesses degree-granting authority from the State of New Hampshire[3] and is regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.[9]
Magdalen College was founded by Catholic laymen in 1973.[10] From 1974 to 1991 the college operated at its original campus in Bedford, New Hampshire; in 1991, it moved to its current site in Warner.[11]
