The constituency was originally created for the 1885 general election, and abolished for the 1983 general election. It was succeeded by the constituency of Waveney.
Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, Waveney was abolished and Lowestoft re-established for the 2024 general election.[2]
