Description |
Originally titled Yankee Doodle, this is one of several versions painted by A. M. Willard. The first appeared in 1876, the centennial of 1776. These are icons of that spirit that gave victorious force to the American Revolution. A mythical 13-star flag flies over thirteen deplorables of an advancing army. Often parodied for humor, they live on as rustic legends of liberty, visions of inspiration – sustaining valor. |
