Summary
DescriptionGeissler.jpg |
English: Drawing of typical Geissler tubes, from 1911. Geissler tubes, invented by German glassblower Heinrich Geissler were the first gas discharge tubes. When a high voltage from an induction coil was applied between the two metal electrodes at the ends, the tube lit up with many glowing colors. They were made throughout the latter 1800s as novelties to demonstrate the new science of electricity. By 1910 the technology was commercialized and evolved into neon signs. |
