B. prasinus is the most varied of the Brachysternus in terms of its color and type of setae, which are the hairs and bristle-like structures found on invertebrates. Due to this wide range of variability, B. prasinus have often been used in entomological studies as the species with which to compare all other Brachysternus species to.[3] B. prasinus is green in color and is 11 to 19 mm in length. B. prasinus has light brown legs that have white hairs on them.[2]
