Atamyrat Nyýazow[lower-alpha 1] (1912 – 24 December 1942) was a soldier in the Red Army during World War II from the Soviet Republic of Turkmenistan who was the father of the first post-Soviet president of Turkmenistan, Saparmyrat Nyýazow, (commonly known as "Türkmenbaşy"). He was also a school teacher and a financial officer.[1]
