Front-runner and right-wing businessman Ricardo Martinelli was convicted on money laundering charges in July 2023, and the Supreme Court's rejection of his appeal on 2 February 2024 rendered him ineligible to be president.[6] José Raúl Mulino, Martinelli's choice for vice president, was the party's candidate for President.[6]
The right-wing candidate Mulino won the election with 34.4% of the vote defeating a multitude of other candidates.[7]
