Criticism of Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit / From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Criticism of Wikipedia has been directed at its content, its procedures, the character and practices of the Wikipedia community, and its nature as an open-source encyclopedia that anyone can edit. The principal concerns of its critics are the factual reliability of the content; the readability of the prose; the organization of the articles; and the existence of systemic, gender, and racial biases among the editorial community. Wikipedia also has been criticized for uneven handling, acceptance, and retention of articles on controversial topics. Further concerns include the editorial vandalism allowed by anonymous editing, the possible formation of editing cliques, and over-complicated rules requiring frequent discussion and sometimes leading to wikilawyering. Some critics predict the end of Wikipedia for these reasons.
