Arts in the Philippines refer to all the various forms of the arts that have developed and accumulated in the Philippines from the beginning of civilization in the country up to the present era. They reflect the range of artistic influences on the country's culture, including indigenous forms of the arts, and how these influences have honed the country's arts. During the early parts of Spanish colonization, a lot of pre-Hispanic arts and forms of arts, was abandoned, melted, recycled or replaced by a more updated arts, suitable for a newer way of life. During the Battle of Manila (1762), The British empire forces, looted a massive amount of Spanish-Filipino arts and artifacts inside the walled city Manila, a lot of these artifacts can now be seen in British Museum. During the World War II, a lot of arts was destroyed by the bombing of both the American and Japanese forces, especially during the Battle of Manila (1945). Massive amount of destructive archaeological looting occurred during the 70's, mostly aiming to find the legendary Yamashita's treasure, as a result, a lot of ancient grave sites and artifacts found by locals was sold to foreigners. As a result, traditional arts and architectures was deemed, old fashioned and a lot of old artifacts was sold and architectures demolished. Arts in the Philippines, especially the Pre-Philippines / Pre-Hispanic era and arts of non-Christian tribes, might have been one of the least articulated subjects in anthropology, due to limited amount of archaeological samples and historical sources. It is also a subject of a lot of modern misconceptions, romanticization, hoaxes and debates.
