Sinaloa (Spanish pronunciation: [sinaˈloa] ⓘ), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Sinaloa (Spanish: Estado Libre y Soberano de Sinaloa), is a state in Northwestern Mexico. It is bordered by Sonora in the north, Chihuahua in the northeast, Durango in the east, Nayarit in the south, and the Pacific Ocean in the west. The state is divided into eighteen municipalities, with its capital city being Culiacán.
