High speed railway lines are railway lines designed for speeds above 200 km/h (125 mph). There are generally two types of high speed rail lines: newly built lines, with typical desing speed between 300 and 350 km/h, and upgraded conventional railway lines, with typical design speeds between 200 and 250 km/h. Other names for "high speed rail line" include LGV (Ligne à grande vitesse) in France, HSL in Benelux, and HGV in Germany.
