Surrounded by Giacomo da Vignola’s golden architectural molding and sculptures, Giovanni Battista Gaulli's Triumph of the Name of Jesus still breaks through and demands attention. Gaulli utilizes these sculptural elements and breaks the frame, incorporating fresco atop of the gold molding, transforming the church ceiling into the heavenly abyss. Triumph of the Name of Jesus represents Catholicism's triumph over the Reformation, and sits as the home of the Jesuit Order.[1] The fresco consumes the nave of the Il Gesu, with both fresco painting and stucco molding.
