The battle was a rare victory for General Mansfeld and a rare defeat in Tilly's long career. The Palatinate army repulsed the Imperial-Catholic invasion, inflicting disproportionately high casualties on the enemy. Alas, the Palatinate's forces were unable to profit from this victory and, after a string of defeats, nearly all remaining territories of Frederick V were lost later that year.
