In recent years, due to the development and urban expansion of Kochi, Thrippunithura has merged with Kochi to form a contiguous urban area. Thus, although a municipality on its own, the area now functions as an important region of Kochi city. Many major projects, such as the Thrippunithura transit hub, have been under development for further integration of the town with the Kochi metropolitan area.[3]
