A tandem rolling mill is a rolling mill with two or more close-coupled stands, where the reduction is achieved by the inter-stand tension(s) and the compressive force between the work rolls.

For mills rolling thinner strip, bridles may be added either at the entry and/or the exit to increase the strip tension near the adjacent stands further increasing their reduction capability.
