Talk:Brooklyn/Archive 1

Regarding the residential quality of Brooklyn and the mention of brownstones: this paragraph is incredibly unclear, first and formost because brownstones are residential structures by their very nature. Secondly, as Brooklyn is known for its brownstones, and they characterize the architechture of several central neighborhoods in the borough, it seems silly to 'explain them away' like this. Additionally, someone really ought to do an article on the brownstone as an architectural phenomenon.12.38.141.4 15:56, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

Fourth largest city by itself! Wow! --Michael Hoffman hm That is a nice fact, but I'd love to see some citation (source) for it. --zandperl 04:45, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Try Googling "Brooklyn fourth OR 4th largest city" Brooklyn Nellie (Nricardo) 07:01, Mar 22, 2004 (UTC)
- Of course, it should be fourth most-populous, not fourth largest. --Timc 11:42, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- The population data of cities is everywhere, so it's not difficult to run the numbers yourself. Also, with cities, aren't "largest" and "most-populous" generally considered the same thing? If a city were to be the largest based on area, I don't think one would just say "largest." Just my 2 cents.
City | Population |
---|---|
New York City -Brooklyn | 5,670,876 |
LA | 3,845,541 |
Chicago | 2,862,244 |
Brooklyn (2003) | 2,433,203 |
Houston | 2,012,626 |

According to nyc.gov, breukelen colonized in 1636; yet all these wikipedia articles would have you believe that the village of breukelen was created in 1646 - why is that? Everyone on wikipedia keeps citing some website called "brooklyn on line" written by soyamaven@aol.com So do you people get all your historical info from a source that doesn't give their real name and has no association with any real historical organizations?! Just because a web site is called "brooklyn on line" doesn't mean it's an official site with historical accuracy. I'd like to see someone update this page with links to more reputable web sites. Thank you.
Shouldn't there be a mention of the "5 other towns"? --Daniel C. Boyer
Brooklyn and Brooklyn, New York should be merged and one made into a redirect. -- Infrogmation 22:24 May 5, 2003 (UTC)
The 6,000 residents of Hamilton County curse you for calling them irrelevant. Don't you think that someone reading that Kings is the largest based on population might just wonder which is the smallest? Really! Don't be obscure!
- So put it in List of New York counties, or even in New York#Demographics. RickK | Talk 03:24, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Why not put it in several useful places, including the relevant county?
