Talk:9 to 5
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For 9 to 5 to make an eight hour day, there can be no breaks at all. Do americans really work eight hours straight? Are breaks "free"?
- This really should be 8 to 5 with a one hour break for lunch. That is system I see alot.

While this has become quite a rarity, many employers (at least in Michigan) paid for a lunch half-hour into the 70s and 80s. One could take an hour for lunch and stay until 5:30 or arrive at 8:30. Therefore one could arrive at nine, leave at five, having had their lunch half-hour and two breaks to which they were entitled under law. Unfortunately, as those of us in the bottom 3/5 have watched our incomes decrease (vs. cost of living increases), we've had to work longer to get the same or less.
