In this Spanish name, the first or paternal surname is Ávila and the second or maternal family name is Avilés.
Rodrigo Ávila (born 25 June 1964) is a Salvadoran politician. He stood as the presidential candidate for the Nationalist Republican Alliance during the 2009 Salvadoran presidential election. Upon his nomination, Ávila also became the president of ARENA. He lost to Mauricio Funes of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), making him the first ARENA candidate to lose a presidential election since Roberto D'Aubuisson in 1984.
