The title is from the word Ned which is a derogatory term applied in Scotland to children living in "schemes" (housing estates), which were badly designed, impoverished areas (the equivalent in england was Chav). Due to their circumstances, the children were often involved in petty crimes. They developed their own way of speaking (their voice takes on a nasal sound) and "fashion" of sorts. Back in the 90's it was white trainers and white socks, with the track suit tucked into the socks. The baseball cap was worn in a 45 degree angle. The film has received critical acclaim.
