English: Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Yoshitsuya; print title Nii no ama, from the series Mirror of Warriors of Our Country (Honchō musha kagami); date 3/1856; 10.75" by 14.25". The print depicts Nii no Ama, the grandmother of emperor Antoku, jumping over board, when she saw that the battle of Dan-no-ura was lost. Antoku tennō was according to tradition a rebirth of a dragon-king’s daughter and here she is returning to her father.
