Summary
DescriptionTornado and Mallard - geograph.org.uk - 1936011.jpg |
English: Steam locomotive 60163 Tornado (green), pictured heading north approaching Newton Aycliffe station, towing the world speed record holder No. 4468 Mallard (blue). Mallard was being moved from her usual home as a static exhibit at the National Railway Museum in York to their satellite site at Shildon Locomotion Museum, the first time she had been seen on the main line for 22 years. Completing the formation is Tornado's support coach, and the preserved former Royal Train diesel locomotive, No. 47798 Prince William, providing extra braking force. She was returned to York over a year later on 19 July 2011, this time towed by No. 5972 Olton Hall (of Harry Potter fame). |
