Deutsch: Südansicht der Burg Hochosterwitz in der Kärntner Gemeinde St. Georgen am Längsee.
Der Felskegel wurde 860 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. In den Jahren 1571 bis 1586 wurde die Felsenburg von dem Landeshauptmann von Kärnten, Georg Freiherr von Khevenhüller, zur gegenwärtigen Burganlage umgebaut. 14 historische Tore, jedes mit einer für sich eigenen Verteidigungsanlage führen auf den rund 160 Meter hohen Burgfelsen, auf dessen Spitze sich die eigentliche Hochburg befindet, die nie erobert wurde. Die Burg wurde 1541 an Georg von Khevenhüller verpfändet, 1571 von diesem gekauft und ist noch immer im Besitz der Familie Khevenhüller. English: South view of Hochosterwitz Castle in Carinthia. |
