Description |
This is one of several versions painted by A. M. Willard. The first appeared in 1876, the centennial of 1776. They are icons of that spirit that gave victorious force to the American Revolution. A mythical thirteen-star flag flies over thirteen sons of liberty in the foreground of an advancing army. Often parodied for humor, they live on as rustic legends of liberty, visions of inspiration – sustaining valor. |
