Summary
DescriptionSilica pseudomorph after gypsum crystals and silicified serpulid polychaete tubes.jpg |
English: On the edges of the Tethys during the Lower Cretaceous the Urgonian carbonate platform has undergone significant variations in sea level.
During periods of low sea level, sub aerial exposure areas appeared and in very shallow bodies of water, the salts precipitated. This sample comes from one of these very shallow bodies of water. Crystals are silica pseudomorph after gypsum. Fossils are silicified serpulid (Polychaeta) tubes.
