Summary
DescriptionNOVA laser.jpg |
The NOVA laser at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Taken shortly after the laser's completion in 1984. The rectangular blue boxes hold a number of large flash tubes and laser glass. Prior to firing Shiva, the boxes are flashed to energize the glass. A seed signal with the proper frequency is then sent in from one end of the lines, as it passes through the boxes they each add more energy to the resulting laser pulse. The long tubes on the left are part of the optics that keep the beams highly uniform. |
