Summary
DescriptionLouis J. Lefkowitz State Office Building 80 Centre Street.jpg | The Louis J. Lefkowitz State Office Building at 80 Centre Street (141 Worth Street) in the Civic Center district of Manhattan, New York City was built in 1928-30 and was designed by William Haugaard, the state architect, who worked under a height restriction so that the new building wouldn't compete with the courthouses on nearby Foley Square. The lobby of the building has an Art Deco Egyptian design, and its facade is made of Maine Coast granite. With 700,000 square feet of office space, it houses offices of the Manhattan District Attorney and other court offices, as well as the City Clerk - entered through 141 Worth Street - and the Manhattan Marriage Bureau; the latter two moved from the Municipal Building in 2009. The building was named for former New York State Attorney General Louis Lefkowitz in 1984. It has been managed by the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services since 2002.
