Summary
DescriptionIn Treue fest 1916.jpg |
English: field postcard with motif In Treue fest, with the colours of the German empire, a photograph of a woman in right profile and a bouquet of flowers (white roses?). Sent on 25 January 1916 by Cord Oeckermann from Haste near Osnabrück to his family in Groß Mackenstedt,
The motto In Treue fest was that of the kingdom of Bavaria, and during WWI was used specifically in reference to the loyalty between Germany and Austria, but in this instance, Treue ("loyalty") is suggested to refer to marital fidelity in time of war. There is a variant of this postcard, with the legend Vergissmeinnicht ("forget-me-not") and an image of the same woman in left profile, and the same bouquet (of white roses, in spite of the title, but the woman seems to be holding blue flowers, possibly forget-me-nots) sent by Cord Oeckermann to his family three days later, on 29 January 1916 (europeana1914-1918.eu, contributor W. Holscher). Universität Osnabrück (Historische Bildpostkarten) has a black and white variant of the same postcard, dated February 1915. |
