English: Herbert Smith plaque, High Street. Smith was an aircraft designer. While working for the Sopwith Aviation Co. he designed the Sopwith Camel, Pup, Triplane and Snipe. He later moved to Mitsubishi, Japan, where he designed several aircraft for the Japanese navy.
The plaque is displayed on the external wall of the Town Hall. |
