Description |
English: Free French flag A wool bunting flag with a cotton hoist, machine sewn and with a rope attached. It is divided into three vertical stripes, blue, white and red with the red cross of Lorraine on the white stripe. 'FF' is marked in ink on the hoist. The flag was used by the French forces in opposition to the German occupation, led in exile by General Charles de Gaulle (1890-1970). The cross of Lorraine was added to the French tricolour to distinguish it from the French national flag still in use by the Vichy government - in effect a German puppet state. |
