It depicts the Continental Navy Ship Ranger, commanded by Captain John Paul Jones, receiving the salute of a French squadron under La Motte Picquet, with his flag on Robuste (1758), at Quiberon Bay, France, 14 February 1778. The original painting is in the U.S. Naval Academy Museum, Annapolis, Maryland. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. |
