Deutsch: Das seit 1890 genutzte Wappen wurde 1896 vom preußischen König König Wilhelm II. genehmigt. Das Tatzenkreuz entstammt einem Schöffensiegel aus dem 15. Jahrhundert. Der elfmalig geteilte Schild ist an das Wappen der Herren von Heppendorf angelehnt, welche ursprünglich über das Stadtgebiet herrschten. Das Balkenkreuz im goldenen Schild entstammt dem Wappen der Herren von Bylandt-Rheydt, die seit 1500 über Rheydt herrschten und von 1552 bis 1591 die Stadt reichsunmittelbar machen konnten. Die Mauerkrone symbolisiert das Stadtrecht. |
