With a loss to the Indiana Pacers on March 5, the Bulls were not able to improve on their 46–36 record from their previous season. Instead, they finished with a struggling record of 40–42. However, it was good enough to qualify for the play-in tournament. They would defeat the Toronto Raptors 109–105 in the first game after mounting a comeback from a 19-point deficit, but ended up losing to the Miami Heat 102–91 in the second game, eliminating them from playoff contention for the 6th time in the past 7 seasons.
